Is magic cards a good investment?

A good friend has 25% of his net worth tied up in Magic: the Gathering cards. Is there anything else you'd like to see? He believes that he has made a small profit on them, overcoming the mistakes he made early on, and should have a good return going forward. Magic: the Gathering cards are not safe to invest in.
